March is Women’s History Month and we are celebrating with an all women’s jazz trio! The trio features Los Angeles based musicians Sophia Augustine (bass) and Jackie Rush (drums) as well as Alex Sjobeck (piano).
Sophia Augustine is a jazz bassist who just recently graduated from Cal State University Northridge with a bachelors in Jazz Studies. Currently based in Los Angeles, she just recently recorded an album with Sam Tru as well as played on a newly released album called Lana Drincic and Friends by Lana Drincic. Being fresh out of school, she continues to pursue her bass playing while playing in groups around the city, as well as playing in other genres that range outside of jazz.
Jackie Rush is a graduate of the Bob Cole Conservatory of music at California State University Long Beach as a KKJZ Scholar with a Bachelor of Music Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies. Post graduation, she had the opportunity to be a part of the Everything I Know About Love tour playing drums with jazz/pop singer Laufey in fall of 2022 and most recently played drums on the Fish Bird Baby Boy tour with New Zealand based singer GeorgiaGetsBy. She is currently based in the LA area playing professionally, recording, coaching at various schools, as well as teaching privately.
Alex Sjobeck is an award winning jazz composer and pianist. She has performed at esteemed music festivals, jazz society concerts, and jazz clubs across the nation.
