Art Exploration on Teacher In-Service Days

Cost $20 each day or $100 total

Ol Slim, the Banjo Man from Pickles Butte(aka  Gary Eller), Andrea Ramelli, Tara Seubert, plus more (TBD)

Please check back often for additional information on guest instructors. Each date will have at least 1 guest artist instructor.  Sign up for all dates or just 1.  Each day will include a full day of arts, crafts, creation and imagination.  Here at MAHC we know how important art and humanities education is to students and as working parents we know that childcare in our area can be a challenge.  So, we have created Out of School:  Art School for teacher in-service days during the 2024/2025 school year.

Every day will include an hour long session of Yoga with Enliven Studio owner Tara Seaubert.  Her 500+ hours as an experienced registered yoga teacher will guide students in the artistic movement practice.

 

 

 

October 18th- Troy Huckaby Troy has taught during our Art School program for the past two years and is a student and teacher favorite.  During the 2022/23 school year he taught bas relief, creating a salmon with the rainbow bridge on it using bubblegum as the medium.  This year he taught 3D sculpture using 3D pens and created houses. He specializes in mixed media and combining different creation processes to organize materials into useful, aesthetically pleasing, and mind altering objects.  He promotes art as part of every day, for every person and woven in all professions.  In addition on this date our Board Member Teighlor Holm will lead us in an mixed media art project, creating wooden pumpkins.  And our staff is excited to weave in some Halloween themed creation.  

 

February 14th-Andrea Ramelli  will lead students in making greeting cards.  Andrea Schafer-Ramelli is a McCall resident who believes cards, or “paper hugs” are simple, easy ways to bring joy to others, which is enhanced immeasurably with handmade cards. Andrea has taught cardmaking classes through Cabin Fever and other local venues for several years, and advised her high school students’ Papercrafting club prior to her retirement.  In addition Board Member Lisa Zeiter will lead us in cookie decorating. And our staff is excited to weave in some Valentines themed creations like watercolor painting some Valentines day cards.

 

March 7th-Ol Slim, the Banjo Man from Pickles Butte(aka  Gary Eller) –  Idaho Songs Project, Historical and place based music.Gary will be entertaining students with songs, poems and stories about early Idaho (pre-1923), with sing along sections for the youth participants. Based on research compiled from regional museums and universities Ol Slim will bring to life through his performance the historyand heritage of a time before the coming of radio and mass recordings, teaching students about historical accounts through music. He then will be helping students to write their own songs.  Eller was 2022 Idaho Governor’s award winning piece of traditional arts grace our local stage.  And our staff is excited to weave in some St. Patrick’s day themed creations.

 

 

April 4th (also see below)-Janna Sylvia.  Janna lead our drum circle during Kaleidoscope 2024 and we are excited for her to lead us in of learning drumming patterns and songs.

 

 

April 4th and April 25th*-Beth Fulton Pottery/Beth Fulton -Slab building Clay Vessels. Beth is a ceramic artists, focusing on handmade, small-batch pottery. She has taught students for us both inside our Art School program and also for our after school programming; where she has taught students slab building, hand molding and glazing techniques.  And our staff is excited to weave in some spring themed creations.

 

April 25th-Patti Steiger.  Patti will lead students in learning Morse Code and creating wearable bracelet art with basic words or phrases in Morse Code of the student’s choosing.

   May 23rd-The Treasure Valley Institute for Children’s Arts (TRICA) is thrilled to be in McCall inspiring kids through the arts!  TRICA Founder/President Jon Swarthout and Visual Arts Director Lisa Arnold will create a magical experience that allows for meaningful learning.  Jon will present a rigorous program combining dance and storytelling. Lisa’s class will nurture creativity, self-expression and fine motor skills. The goal is to foster a love of dance and art in a supportive and playful environment.  The day will culminate in a public presentation that brings both artistic traditions together and will have the students and audience brimming with joy.

*It is recommended that you sign up for both dates in April to get the full pottery experience.
