Break out your muse and let’s dive into discovering and refining your unique voice. We’ll engage in a wide array of writing prompts, styles, and genres so you can find and explore what works for you.
- Identify ongoing writing topics in your life.
- Play with writing prompts.
- Explore the practice of journaling.
- Explore different genres such as vignettes and poetry.
- Study high quality examples of writing to help inspire you.
- Practice being respectful and supportive as we share.
Each week we’ll practice a variety of techniques to help you develop your own style and preferred genre. It’s important for you to continue practicing and refining your writing at home.
Please bring a notebook or large journal and your favorite pen or pencil. I highly recommend the Decomposition Books at the Barn Owl. We’ll use pen/pencil and paper in our sessions; at home you are encouraged to use a keyboard and device to stretch and refine your writing.
Your instructor, Renée Silvus, taught high school Language Arts for seventeen years. She developed and taught creative writing classes in two high schools for all kinds of eager, unmotivated, and amazing teenagers.
