April 27, 2020. For Immediate Release: The MAHC to Cancel Kaleidoscope and Creative Campus in light of COVID-19.
The McCall Arts and Humanities Council will be canceling two of its popular summer programs this summer, Kaleidoscope and Creative Campus, due to concerns around COVID-19 safety issues, according to MAHC’s executive director Tracey Kindall. “While these summer programs are still a bit distant on the calendar, we would rather err on the side of being too safe, rather than risk people getting sick by being together too soon,” she notes. “It is also necessary for us to plan ahead for these big undertakings,” adds Kindall. “We feel that it would be unfair to ask our sponsors, families, and instructors to put the energy and planning into programs that are likely to still be too risky by the time June rolls around.” Both popular programs were established in the late 1990s, and this will be the first time either has been cancelled in their 20+ year histories.
There was another contributing factor in the decision to cancel the Kaleidoscope festival, according to Kindall. “We can’t stage Kaleidoscope without our local business partners,” she notes. “This festival has always been a shared gift to our community. Local businesses are hurting right now, so we’re not going to ask them for sponsorship. Instead, we’ll come back stronger together next year.”
