Everything you need to know about getting started in the paper arts will be provided in this three-day workshop offered by professional artists Deb Yensen and Amy Nack. Skills will be introduced and practiced, and then incorporated into the construction of a beautiful paper lantern. Students will begin by creating several sheets of hand-made paper. Next, creating luscious layered monotype prints on delicate Asian papers will allow each student to discover his or her unique creative printmaking style. Once the paper is dry and the delicately-layered prints are completed, students will be guided through the process of composing four two-sided wooden panels and assembling them with a clever reversible hinge to construct a lovely lantern. In the process, students will learn techniques for cutting and piercing paper to create beautiful shadows that can be seen from both the front and back sides of the lantern. Participants are encouraged to bring their own favorite stamps, stencils, and paper punches if desired.
