Across time and cultures, poetry has been considered a portal to wisdom, offering insights beyond human understanding. Traditional wisdom poets, like Rumi, drew from the wells of religious and spiritual texts to create poems of great beauty, and even today, contemporary poets lay claim to radical new ways of understanding ourselves and the world around us. As writers, we seek this same clarity in our work. How can exploring what is mysteriously inherent in the process of composing poems help to guide us? In this workshop, we will draw from the wisdom of great poetry to engage our own deeper truths. Through the consideration of existing poems and working with writing prompts, we will discover richer veins of meaning, to discover for ourselves Rumi's timeless truth, that "what you seek is seeking you." All are welcome and you needn’t be a poet to glean significant insights from this workshop. Instructor Tobias Wray, PhD, is the Director of Creative Writing Programs at the University of Idaho. His poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Blackbird, Bellingham Review, Third Coast and elsewhere. Workshop includes a break for lunch (lunch not provided so plan to bring your own or buy nearby).  Registration Required
